The shipment, brought to the East by Archpriest Andrey Dvorovoy, head of the Department of Social Service and Charity of the Kyiv Eparchy of the UOC, included 1 ton of long-term storage products and 100 pairs of winter shoes, which were specially made for the residents of Sviatohirsk Lavra.
Sviatohirsk has been on the front line for several months and has been heavily damaged by the fighting. There is practically no building on the territory of the Lavra that has not been damaged. So this winter, everyone who lives on its territory will have to live in extremely difficult conditions.
Currently, the monastery is home to more than 300 people, including more than 200 refugees.
Thanks to many benefactors, including the Foundation in Honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Lavra has become a center of ongoing humanitarian aid for the surrounding communities. In November, the monastery's residents distributed more than 26 tons of food to the towns of Sviatohirsk, Lyman, and the village of Tetianivka.
This time, in addition to helping the monastery with essential foodstuffs, all the children living on its territory were presented with gifts for the feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
Some of the delivered food was also handed over to volunteers in Sloviansk who feed more than 700 people on a regular basis.
