Home for the elderly at the Transfiguration Church
About the project
About the project
We believe that old age can and should be comfortable and filled with a full-fledged lifestyle.
In 2016, a foundation of the home for the elderly was laid at the Transfiguration Church in the village of Yablunivka, Chernihiv region. For five years, the Vadym Novynskyi Foundation has been actively helping the church’s community build this abode of mercy.
Today, the rector of the church, Archpriest Volodymyr Drebot, has six elderly people in his ward, who have no one to take care of them. Once the construction and fitting out of the home for the elderly is completed, the church’s community will be able to help a much larger number of people.
The Transfiguration Church in the village of Yablunivka is unique in itself. It was erected in 1811-1815 and is an architectural monument of the national scale.
Since its foundation, the community has taken care of the fate of destitute and sick people throughout the neighbourhood. Orphaned children were brought up at the church.
Today, these traditions are being actively revived and the parish delivers an active social service. In addition to the home for the elderly, Father Volodymyr Drebot opened a family-type children’s home and has been taking care of children deprived of parental care for many years.
